Covid brought me many new things (enter Jonathan) and one of them is a love of working in my yard. I will try to find some before pictures, but just try and imagine an overgrown mess. Along with some dear friends, I have labored and labored over my yard so much so that I started a cut flower garden business in part of it. See?! I really have begun a love affair with my yard and I love to have people experience it with me.
So while Jonathan was courting me, I was courting my yard. Even before I read his first text in 2020 I knew that one day I would love to host a wedding in my backyard never dreaming that it would be my own. And this June that dream is becoming a reality. We are hosting the reception in our backyard! I am so excited and extremely grateful to have friends and a partner who will help me get it ready. Because while it is fun, it has and will be a ton of work. Stay tuned as we continue to turn this mess into the evening of our dreams.
Dreams do you say? When I imagined my backyard hosting this party I always imagined it at night with lights strung through all of the trees. So dreamy and romantic. I bought my lights at Costco on sale before the end of the year. I might have bought a lot… but they were on sale! We decided that we wanted to enjoy them throughout the year, so we strung them early. Eeekk!! So exciting!
We hung the lights during the day and while that was easier, you couldn’t really tell what they would look like until the nighttime. When we were able to look at them in their full glory, I felt like there was a dead space near the part of the yard where I take pictures. That weekend Jonathan and I watched a Christmas movie and the girl surprised her love interest by wrapping a tree in lights. Jonathan casually said he would love to do that sometime. Insert early Christmas present and a solution to the dark part of the yard! I can’t wait for people to see it. I hope there is a lot of eating and dancing under these lights.
Enjoy some pictures I took of the lights during our snow storm.
